iStudy Hall

Should students be allowed to listen to their iPods and other mp3 devices in their study halls? Why or why not? Speak your mind, but remember, vulgar language or an anonymous name will get the post deleted.

I believe that mp3 listening devices should be allowed in study halls, with some stipulations of course. First, the user cannot be on the list, even as a warning. If they are, they cannot use their device. Also, if one chooses to use his device, he may not share with another student and must remain quiet, which is already a rule in study halls. I also believe that it should not be every day that we get to use them. Friday's, just like with hat days, we should be able to pay 25¢, get our hand stamped and then be able to listen during study halls the rest of the day, but not in any of the classes.

I think that it isn't going to hurt anyone and will actually help to make study halls quieter and more productive because i know myself along with a lot of other people work better with ipods! And I don't think we should have to pay to use them!

As I was talking to a teacher the other day about this topic, some new ideas came to light. There would need to be some rules set up dealing specifically with the iPods about their use in school, such as only in study halls (SH), not in class. Another thing that would be necessary in my opinion is a contract signed, much like the computer one in the begining of school stating the rules and consequences of breaking the rules, such as loss of privilege. However, many students see these privileges as rights and are outraged if the administration dare take them away, take the lounge for instance. I believe that the list rule that I previously proposed should stay, after all, if you owe work or need help in a class, you should be signing out there, not sitting in SH listening to music. The main thing here is that both the staff and the students would need to make a deal and hold up their end of the bargain.

Ok my opinion on this topic is YES i do believe that study halls would remain quieter with iPods, but aren't study halls supposed to be quiet anyway? I do agree on the rules with Wayde and not because we are related but because it is smart and reasonable. I know there would be major conflict over paying 25¢ but we pay 25¢ for hat day and there is not a problem with that, and plus if we do it on hat days or off days then we can pool the money from that to the cause of the week. What's the big deal anyway i mean some of the student (i can't think of 3 in particular) have no or barely no study halls so what is the use of them. And yes i believe that we should be able to use them in study halls and or lunch periods. like i said with pajama wars i don't think it is a huge deal!
